Test Subject 001 - Epilogue 1

The lights in her penthouse turned on as she landed on the balcony. It had been a fun couple of days despite the odd setback. She showered and called in some dinner. She browsed aimlessly through a long list of shows and couldn’t figure a good one before she finished her dinner. Turning the TV off, she tossed the remote aside and went to get some fresh air. She was due back at E-Division the next day, and she seemed to be content whiling away the time.

But as much as she was trying to avoid doing what she had to, she knew it was time. She had kept glancing at the laptop on her desk the whole evening, but now, she could not put it off any longer. As soon as it finished booting, she plugged in a pen drive. A prompt appeared on the screen, ‘Initiate Backdoor Protocol?’

She fidgeted a while longer, trying to delay making the decision she had already made. She had set the ball rolling long before the session, or even before the Fixer tried to get her tested without her being none the wiser. As amusing as his attempt to deceive her was, she decided to play along. She could only hope the reason for his doing so was because of a general paranoia that the profilers at E-Division attributed to him and not because he remembered incidents from four years ago. More importantly, while his machinations were fun, she was hoping her compliance would buy enough of his trust for when the time came.

And as much as she enjoyed playing the game with him, she needed to know what he knew. The Fixer had his turn trying to figure her secrets, now it was her turn. There was a risk that she'd burn this bridge with this action, but it was a risk that had to be taken. So she hit ‘Yes’. As the program began running its code, she sat back whispering to herself, “So Mr Fixer, let’s see what you’re secrets you've got.”
