Chi Master - Case of the Faux Fixer

"There, there ladies! No need to fight! There's more than enough of me to go around!"
If you are thinking, how could that Fox Fixer get so lucky so as to stuck between two beautiful women, well, you'll need to read on!

She was close. It had taken a while but all her patience finally paid off. Kobe Takashi had spent the better part of three weeks now chasing down leads to find this elusive villain. She first heard his name being whispered in some of the seediest black markets. An illegal high-tech arms dealer who provided crime bosses with weapons designed to take down superheroes. The trail eventually led her to Bayside City. She met up with Victory Girl at the E-Division headquarters there, so as to buck the trend of superheroes fighting for silly reasons the first time they ran into each other. She was determined not to be added to that tropes’ listing.

Finally, just yesterday as the Chi Master, she got a major break. While tracing down a lead with Victory Girl, the two closed down a major arms smuggler who was using the city’s port to… well, smuggle arms into the country. There, finally, the name came up again. Victory Girl was quick to try and dismiss it, and asked her to ‘drop the case’. Suddenly, she knew what was happening. All this while, she assumed the two were a team, like cops in a buddy cop movie. But instead, Victory Girl turned out to be the sarge who told the hero to drop the case just when a major break presented itself.

If she was a cop or in the employ of E-Division, that would have been her cue to turn in her badge and go rogue to crack the case. But she was neither. She was the Chi Master and she didn’t take orders from anyone. The trail of clues eventually led her to a half occupied office complex on the outskirts of the city. She knew she was close to apprehending him once and for all. She could have turned up in her civilian identity of famous journalist, Kobe Takashi, but she knew if she was going to take down a major villain, she’d better turn up as the Chi Master.

Her tip was right. The office complex had a secret floor. The custom key she ‘acquired’ from a middleman in a bar gave her access. ‘Shorty’ he called her. He’ll need splints for his hands for a few weeks. There were times when she appreciated her less-than-intimidating stature, but then other times, she wished she didn’t need to lean on lowlifes to get information.

Presently, the elevator doors opened and she was all set to spring into action, but there was no welcoming committee. Did he really not install security cameras in the elevator or was he luring her into a trap further in the bowels of his lair? No matter. There was no trap that could contain her once she unleashed her full power. Still, she ventured forth with caution.

Classical music wafted down the long hallway. She made her way to the door where it came from. Bracing herself, she slowly turned the handle, hoping to surprise the villain who was certainly inside. Inside, was a strange looking tall bald man wearing some sort of power armour. Finally, a challenge.

Unfortunately for the Chi Master, a creaky floor tile gave away her presence. The man turned around, saying, “You’re not supposed to show up until tomorrow! I’m… wait a minute, you’re… you’re… the Chi Master!”

“It’s time you paid for all your crimes!” she declared as she blocked the only exit.

“Hold that thought,” he replied, before he dived for a hidden door near him. The door sealed instantly. She was expecting him to charge her as most tall men did when they saw her five-foot-tall frame blocking their path. His dash in the opposite direction caught her on the wrong foot. Her first strike had no effect, so she powered up some more and let it rip. The door went flying off its hinges. She dashed down the dark passage, suddenly slowing her pace just as some darts flew by. In the darkness, one managed to tag her arm, but she barely felt any different. When she finally emerged from the other end, she was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t more of a challenge.

She heard scrambling footsteps ahead so she sprinted in its direction. A couple of turns later, she found him trying to open a door. “End of the line, Fixer!” she yelled. He nearly jumped out of his skin. Turning around slowly with an expression of mild panic on his face, he asked, “Before we begin, I have one question! Shouldn’t your name be Chi Mistress?”

Chi Master powered up even more than before, her eyes crackling with power, fists aflame and the distinct sparks that appeared around her just before she went into an all out fight. If the Fixer thought that question would buy him some time with her launching into a monologue, it had failed miserably. “Oh, when I’m through with you, there isn’t anyone who’s going to be able to fix you,” she growled. The Fixer swallowed hard. Chi Master was certain that everything would be decided in one blow, so she took her time. She knew the Fixer was trying to goad her into doing something reckless. She wasn’t going to make that mistake. Her years of experience fighting off numerous challengers who wished to test her might as the Chi Master had prepared her well. Then suddenly a voice interrupted the tense standoff.

“Well, well, if it isn’t the Chi Master herself!”

Chi Master cursed herself for getting so distracted by the villain in front of her that she never noticed the one who sneaked up behind her. Still, it was odd that the new ‘villain’ did not try a sneak attack and the voice that declared her presence sounded very familiar.

“Victory Girl?!” blurted out a startled Chi Master as she turned around to face her new ‘opponent’. “What’s with the ominous voice?”

“I always wanted to try that! What are you doing here anyway?”

“The Fixer is my prey. You had your chance all this while.”

Victory Girl looked a little shocked for a second before bursting into laughter. “That’s not the Fixer.”

“What?! All the clues I found lead to him!”

Still tickled pink, Victory Girl took her time composing herself. “Well, ask yourself this, would the real Fixer be sitting on some abandoned floor in an office complex without any elaborate traps to stop people who would seek to capture him?”

“Given his rep, probably not…”

“And would the real Fixer,” said Victory Girl as she continued to approach ‘the Fixer’, “not have some serious firepower on his person at all times?”

“He probably would…”

“And would the real Fixer be wearing a custom designed virtual reality body suit instead of an actual power armour?”

“Now that you mention it, it doesn’t even look like armour..”

“And lastly, but not leastly, would the real Fixer allow me to do this?” asked Victory Girl as she rubbed ‘the Fixer’s’ bald head. “Ooh, wait, sorry, hold up, I got one more!” added Victory Girl before the flow of her monologue broke, since she rarely got to monologue. “Would the real Fixer and me have matching signal devices?” She was pointing at a device on the Fixer’s ‘Armour’ that blipped just like the one on Victory Girl’s wrist.

“Then… who is he?”

“Oh, he’s just some cheap, unemployed actor we picked up off the streets to play the part of the Fixer. We’re tracking a couple of the Fixer’s suppliers and thought we’d put out some fake leads and see if we could lure them in. Getting into a fight with them was never part of the plan. I mean look at this “Fixer”,” said Victory Girl with air quotes around the Fixer’s name. “He’s still trembling. My Arch-Nemesis doesn’t tremble even at the sight of me!”

I had shared my, err, appreciation of the charms of Kobe Takashi so RagingCyc0ne as kind enough to send her over. He titled the piece, 'He's a villain', and was curious to see how VG got the Fixer out of this fix.
