Partners - Part 3
The guard scrambles with the keys as he hurls expletives and threats through the door. As soon as he bursts through, the Fixer feels their chairs shudder as she… does something. He can’t tell. He can feel the guard and the woman struggle but cannot figure out what’s going on. The guard's voice keeps getting fainter and finally, he’s not making a sound. A few moments later, he feels his ropes fall away. He finally has a chance to look at his ‘hero’. She’s tall, almost as tall as him, with raven black hair and distinct green eyes. “Is he… dead?”
“Don’t think so. No, he’s still breathing.”
“How… did you do that?”
“One of the perks of being a mob boss’s daughter is that my babysitters were usually assassins and hitmen. You know, people of the trade. Now, stay here and lock the door, and don’t open it for anyone but me.” She’s just finished securing the guard and inspecting his gun, a spare clip and the knife.
“There are at least 10 men in this building.”
“Oh, I counted 12. Don’t worry, they won’t see me coming and I’m near bulletproof anyway.”
“You’re an Evolved?”
“No you idiot. I’m their precious hostage? Do you have a concussion or were you not paying attention to a word of what I was saying?”
“Right.”
“Now, close your ears if you don’t like screaming.”
